Keys for a new hire, without the trip

Businesses usually need keys in batches: a new manager, a second shift, a cleaning crew, a replaced lockbox key. Instead of sending someone to the hardware store, we come to your location and cut the keys there.

Copies from worn originals often work poorly. Where possible, we cut to the correct code or decode the original rather than tracing a worn key, so the new keys run smoothly.

Standard commercial keys

Common commercial keyways on office doors, storefronts, back doors, padlocks and cabinets.

Master-keyed keys

Change keys and master keys from an existing system, cut so they match the system’s design. We may ask who authorized the request.

Stamped and coded keys

Keys stamped “Do Not Duplicate” or with a code. We copy them once we receive permission from whoever controls the key, and confirm who is allowed to order copies. We never copy government-issued keys of any kind.

Key control: who gets copies

Every extra key is another way into your building. Before cutting commercial keys, we confirm the person ordering is authorized to request them, especially for master keys. Our access to investigative verification resources gives us an unusual additional capability when identity or ownership needs to be confirmed.

If you want tighter control than stamped keys provide, consider a restricted or patented keyway, which a hardware store or kiosk can’t copy. That’s covered on our high-security key duplication and high-security lock pages.

When a copy isn’t the right answer

If a key is missing, lost by an ex-employee, or there are more copies floating around than you can account for, duplicating more keys makes the problem worse. Rekeying cuts off the old keys entirely, and we can cut fresh keys for the people who should have them in the same visit.

See commercial rekeying or, if your building is outgrowing a single key, master key systems.

  1. Count the keys. Tell us how many copies of each key you need when you order online or call.
  2. Confirm authorization. We confirm who is approving the keys, particularly for masters.
  3. We cut on site. Keys are cut at your location and labeled as you request.
  4. Test every key. We try each new key in its lock before we leave.

What does commercial key duplication cost?

Standard price: quoted before dispatch. Price depends on the number of keys, the key blank, whether keys are cut by code or from an original, and whether master keys are included. If you also need rekeying or lock work, ask us to handle it in the same trip.

  • Standard rate: orders placed 7 AM–8 PM
  • After hours (orders placed 8 PM–7 AM): 1.5×
  • Federal holidays (calendar date and observed date): 2×
  • Federal holiday, after hours: 3×
  • No weekend surcharge
  • Mileage: $1.25/mile beyond 5 miles from the city center

Multipliers apply to everything on the job (service, labor, parts and hardware) except the flat $15 (inside city limits) or $25 (outside city limits) service call and mileage. The after-hours rate is set by the time the order is placed. Holidays are U.S. federal holidays, billed on both the calendar date and the observed weekday.

Online orders pay the $15–$25 service call at checkout as the deposit: $15 inside city limits, $25 outside (plus a 4% online processing fee). It is a flat fee added to the service price, and the time-of-day multipliers never apply to it. See our Payment & Deposit Policy and Cancellation Policy. See how our pricing works.

Keys we may not be able to copy

Patented and restricted keys from high-security brands follow that system’s authorization rules. We are not an authorized dealer for any brand, so some restricted keys must be ordered through the dealer that controls the system. We’ll tell you up front if your key falls into that category. Government-issued keys are never copied.

Car keys for company vehicles are a separate service; see fleet vehicle locksmith.

Commercial key copy FAQ

Can you cut keys at my office instead of a store?

Yes. Instant Locksmith TN is a mobile service, so we cut commercial keys at your location and test them in your locks before leaving.

Will you copy a master key?

We can cut master keys for an existing system once the person ordering is confirmed as authorized. Because a master key opens multiple doors, we take that confirmation seriously.

Why don’t my hardware store copies work well?

Copies traced from a worn key copy the wear too, and some blanks are a close but imperfect match. Cutting by code or decoding the original usually produces a smoother key.

Can you stamp the new keys?

Yes. We stamp keys with the numbers or codes your company uses for key tracking. Tell us your stamping scheme when you order.

Do you need the original key?

Usually. Without an original, keys can sometimes be made by decoding the lock or from your key schedule's codes. Otherwise rekeying may be the practical option.

How many copies should a small business keep?

Only as many as you can account for. Keep a written list of who holds each key, and rekey when someone leaves with one.

Need a batch of business keys?

Tell us how many and what kind; we’ll confirm the price before cutting.
