Car lockout help that comes to you
Instant Locksmith TN provides mobile car lockout service throughout Middle Tennessee, including Nashville, Murfreesboro, Franklin, Hendersonville and the surrounding counties. You tell us where the vehicle is, we send a locksmith, and the door gets opened where the car sits.
Most lockouts are a simple door opening: the keys are inside and the car is fine. If the key is actually lost, broken, or the doors unlocked but the trunk is the problem, a different service fits better, and we'll point you to it so you don't pay for the wrong thing.
Which situation are you in?
Keys visible inside
The classic lockout. The car is locked, the key or fob is inside, and nothing is broken. This is a standard car lockout call.
Keys in the trunk
Getting into the cabin is only step one. If the trunk won't open from inside, see our trunk lockout service so the locksmith arrives ready for it.
Keys are gone
Opening the door won't help if there is no key to start the car. You need a new key cut and programmed; start with our lost car keys service.
Push-button start cars can still lock you out
Many newer vehicles are designed to stop you from locking a smart key inside, but it still happens: a dead fob battery, a second fob in a bag, or a door locked by hand can defeat the safeguard. Some cars also re-lock automatically after a short time if no door is opened.
Before you call, try the mechanical key that is usually hidden inside the fob, or the manufacturer's phone app if your car has one. If neither is available, we'll open the door the same way as any other vehicle.
How a car lockout call works
- Order or call. Use the online locksmith order form or tap Call Now. Give us the year, make and model, where the car is parked, and where the keys are.
- See the price. You get the standard price for your time slot before we dispatch. Online and phone orders pay the $15 (inside city limits) or $25 (outside) service call up front as the deposit; mileage of $1.25 per mile applies beyond 5 miles from the nearest served city's center.
- Technician dispatched. We aim to deploy within about an hour in Nashville, Murfreesboro, Franklin, Brentwood, Smyrna, La Vergne, Hendersonville, Gallatin, Goodlettsville, Mount Juliet, Spring Hill, Nolensville, White House and Fairview. That is a goal, not a guarantee: demand, traffic, weather, distance and the job itself all affect timing.
- Authorization check. Before opening anything, the locksmith confirms you are authorized to access the vehicle. How we verify ownership explains what to expect.
- Door opened. The locksmith opens the car, you retrieve your keys and confirm everything works before they leave.
Proving the car is yours
We don't open a vehicle for someone who isn't allowed in it. Registration papers are often locked inside the car with the keys, though, so we don't necessarily require a title or a specific document up front. Our access to investigative verification resources gives us an unusual additional capability when identity or ownership needs to be confirmed.
Lockouts on the interstate or in big parking lots
We take calls from shoulders and exits along I-24, I-40, I-65, I-440 and Briley Parkway, plus large parking areas like stadium, shopping and airport lots. If you're on a highway shoulder, stay safely away from traffic, turn on hazards if you can, and give us the nearest exit or mile marker. Interstate shoulders, airport lots and stadium lots are all inside our service area. In a large lot, a row number or nearby store entrance saves a lot of time.
What does a car lockout cost?
Car lockouts from $55 — the lowest posted car-lockout price we found anywhere in Tennessee.*
Standard price: $55+. The quote you see covers opening the vehicle described. Prices are confirmed before the work begins, and if something changes on site (for example, the key turns out to be locked in the trunk) the locksmith explains and gets your approval first.

Car lockout FAQ
Should I call my roadside assistance or a locksmith?
Either can work. Roadside plans through insurers or auto clubs may cover lockouts but often route through a dispatcher, so wait times vary. Calling a locksmith directly means one point of contact and a price you see up front.
Can you unlock a car with the engine running?
Yes. A running car with the keys inside is a normal lockout. Tell us when you order so we prioritize it if fuel or heat is a concern, and never leave a child or pet inside; call 911 if anyone is in danger.
What information do you need when I order?
The vehicle's year, make and model, its exact location, where the keys are, and a phone number where you can be reached. Mentioning a dead fob battery or a car alarm helps the locksmith come prepared.
Will my car alarm go off when you open the door?
It may. Many alarms sound when a door opens without the key or fob. Once you have the key, pressing unlock or starting the car usually silences it.
Can you open a car if I'm not the registered owner?
If you are authorized to use the vehicle, such as a family member or an employee with a company car, we can usually help once authorization is confirmed. We won't open a vehicle when we can't establish that.
Is it cheaper to break a window myself?
Rarely. A replacement door window plus the cleanup usually costs more than a lockout call, and broken glass inside a car is a hazard. If a child or animal is in danger, call 911 instead of acting alone.
What if my keys are locked in a car with a dead battery?
We can still open the door mechanically. Getting the car started afterward is a separate problem, so plan for a jump start or tow once you have the keys.
