ILT Lifesaver: Free Emergency Entry When a Child, Pet or At-Risk Adult Is Trapped
If a child, pet or at-risk adult is trapped inside a vehicle or a home in Middle Tennessee and may be in danger, call 911 first — then anyone who notices can call Instant Locksmith TN. When our technician confirms the danger and the situation qualifies, our emergency entry is free — no service call, no after-hours or holiday multiplier, and no profit to us.
- Free when the situation qualifies
- Anyone can report it
- Vehicles and homes
- Open 24/7/365
What to do — in this order
- Call 911 if the child, animal or adult looks distressed, unresponsive, overheated, or the car is in direct sun or heat. Tell the dispatcher exactly where you are.
- Call Instant Locksmith TN and say “ILT Lifesaver.” Give the address or landmark, the vehicle or building, and what you can see.
- Stay with the vehicle or at the door where it's safe to do so, and keep watching. Try to find the owner — a store page or front-desk announcement can be fastest.
- Let the technician confirm the danger. On arrival our technician must see or hear for themselves that a life is in immediate danger before forcing entry — your report gets us there, but it can't authorize entry on its own.
- Follow responders' directions. If police, fire or EMS arrive first, they're in charge. Our technician works alongside them or stands down.
Please don't put yourself or others at risk. Breaking a window can injure the person or animal inside and you; leave that decision to emergency responders unless they direct otherwise.
What qualifies
Usually qualifies
- A child locked inside a vehicle, especially in heat or direct sun.
- A pet trapped in a hot or closed vehicle.
- A young child locked inside a home alone — for example, after the parent stepped outside and the door locked.
- A pet trapped inside a home in a situation that appears dangerous.
- An at-risk adult who can't get to the door — for example, an elderly person who has fallen inside a locked home.
Usually doesn't qualify
- An adult locked out with no one in danger — that's a standard car lockout or house lockout.
- A pet that is safely inside a climate-controlled home.
- Situations where the person reporting is trying to gain access for another reason.
A situation qualifies only when our technician visually or audibly confirms that the life of the child, pet or adult is in immediate danger — for example, seeing a distressed child in a hot car or hearing someone call for help. A bystander report alone doesn't authorize forced entry; if the technician can't confirm the danger, we wait for responders or the owner. The full terms are in the ILT Lifesaver Terms.
Why Tennessee needs this
Middle Tennessee summers are hot and humid, and a closed car heats up far faster than most people expect — even on mild days the inside can become dangerous within minutes. Busy parents, a quick errand, a fob that locks the doors automatically: it happens to careful people. ILT Lifesaver exists so cost is never part of the decision when a child or animal could be in danger.
How ILT Lifesaver works with verification
For normal lockouts we confirm authorization before opening anything. In a genuine life-safety emergency, once the technician has established a reasonable threat to life, limb or eyesight, getting the person or animal out comes first; identity and ownership are verified after entry, and we coordinate with any responders on scene. Our access to investigative verification resources gives us an unusual additional capability when identity or ownership needs to be confirmed. How verification works.
Other programs
Some other locksmiths in the Nashville area also offer free emergency unlocks for children and pets locked in cars, and that's a good thing — call whoever can get there fastest. ILT Lifesaver covers homes as well as vehicles, and anyone who notices a qualifying situation can report it, not just the owner.
ILT Lifesaver FAQ
Do I have to be the car or home owner to report an ILT Lifesaver situation?
No. Owners, neighbors, passersby and bystanders can all report a situation. If you aren't the owner, also call 911 and try to locate the owner. Your report gets a technician moving, and the technician confirms the danger before any forced entry.
Is ILT Lifesaver really free?
Yes, when the situation qualifies: no service call, no service price and no after-hours or holiday multiplier. Instant Locksmith TN does not profit from the program. Any additional work afterward, such as a new key or rekey, is a normal paid service only if the owner asks for it.
Should I call 911 or a locksmith first?
Call 911 first whenever a child, animal or adult may be in immediate danger. Then call Instant Locksmith TN. Emergency responders can act immediately and provide medical help.
Does ILT Lifesaver cover elderly or disabled adults?
Yes. At-risk adults are included — for example, an elderly person who has fallen and can't reach the door. Call 911 immediately, then call us. As with children and pets, entry is free when the situation qualifies, and the technician must see or hear that the person's life is in immediate danger before forcing entry.
Where is ILT Lifesaver available?
Everywhere Instant Locksmith TN serves in Middle Tennessee. See our service areas. Response time depends on technician location and conditions, which is another reason to call 911 first.
Can I donate or help spread the word?
The best help is awareness: share this page with parents, pet owners, schools and daycares. We don't accept donations for ILT Lifesaver.
