Motorcycle Locksmith: Keys, Ignitions & Locks

Instant Locksmith TN makes motorcycle keys, services motorcycle ignitions, and handles stuck fork, seat, fuel-cap and saddlebag locks wherever your bike is parked in Middle Tennessee. Lost your only key? We can usually cut a new one from the lock itself, and we program chip keys too. Scooters and ATVs are covered as well.

Why bike keys are their own job

On many motorcycles, one key runs several locks: the ignition, the fork (steering) lock, the fuel cap, the seat or helmet lock, and sometimes the saddlebags or top case. Lose that key and every one of those is affected.

Unlike a car, you can't just ride it home and sort it out later — a parked bike with the fork locked can't even be pushed straight. That's why we come to it.

What we help riders with

Lost or stolen key

New key cut by decoding a lock or from a key code. If your key tag or paperwork has a code, have it ready.

Spare keys

A second key cut from your working one — and programmed if your bike has a chip. Cheap insurance against a long walk.

Stuck or worn ignition

Ignitions on bikes live outside in rain, sun and road grime. We service, re-key or replace worn ignition cylinders where parts are available.

Fork lock stuck

Steering locked and the key won't release it — usually wear or corrosion. We free it without forcing the bars.

Fuel cap, seat & helmet locks

Seized gas caps and seat locks that won't release are common on bikes that sat through a season.

Saddlebags & top cases

Locked luggage, broken keys in case locks, or re-keying cases so they match your ignition key.

Transponder chips and key fobs on motorcycles

Many newer motorcycles use an immobilizer that reads a chip in the key, much like a car. A perfectly cut key without a programmed chip will turn the ignition but the bike won't run. We program motorcycle chip keys for any bike that doesn't require dealer-issued tools, and some keyless bikes use a fob instead of a key in the ignition.

That's why we ask for the year, make and model up front. We'll tell you honestly before dispatch if your bike needs dealer-issued tools. For how chip programming works in general, see transponder key programming.

How a motorcycle locksmith call works

  1. Tell us about the bike. Year, make, model, where it's parked, and what's wrong. Order a motorcycle locksmith online to see the price and deposit.
  2. We confirm the bike is yours to access. Same authorization check we use for every vehicle — see our verification page.
  3. Decode or copy. We read your key, decode a lock, or use your key code.
  4. Cut and program. The key is cut on-site and programmed if the bike uses a chip and we can support it.
  5. Test every lock. Ignition, fork lock, fuel cap, seat and luggage — whichever your key runs.

Out on a ride when it happens?

Middle Tennessee's back roads draw riders from all over, and keys go missing at overlooks and gas stops as often as at home. Get somewhere safe, off the road, and send us your location. If you're far outside city limits, our deployment time will be longer — we'll give you a realistic estimate when you order.

We also work on RV and camper locks if your bike rides along on a trailer or toy hauler.

What does a motorcycle locksmith cost?

Standard price: quoted before dispatch. We confirm your price before work begins. If the bike needs something different from what was described — like chip programming or a replacement cylinder — we explain it and get your approval first.

  • Standard rate: orders placed 7 AM–8 PM
  • After hours (orders placed 8 PM–7 AM): 1.5×
  • Federal holidays (calendar date and observed date): 2×
  • Federal holiday, after hours: 3×
  • No weekend surcharge
  • Mileage: $1.25/mile beyond 5 miles from the city center

Multipliers apply to everything on the job (service, labor, parts and hardware) except the flat $15 (inside city limits) or $25 (outside city limits) service call and mileage. The after-hours rate is set by the time the order is placed. Holidays are U.S. federal holidays, billed on both the calendar date and the observed weekday.

Ordering online? The $15–$25 service call ($15 inside city limits, $25 outside) is your deposit and holds your dispatch — see our Payment & Deposit Policy. See the full pricing breakdown.

What affects the price

  • Copying a working key vs. making one with no key
  • Whether the bike needs a chip programmed
  • How many locks need to work with the new key
  • Parts, if an ignition or lock cylinder needs replacing (ordered and billed at standard rates)
  • When the order is placed, using the after-hours and holiday multipliers below

Motorcycle Locksmith FAQ

Can you make a key for my motorcycle without the original?

Yes, in most cases. We decode the key from one of the bike's locks or cut from a key code. If the bike has a transponder immobilizer, we program the new chip key too, as long as the bike doesn't require dealer-issued tools.

Where can I find my motorcycle's key code?

Check the small metal tag that came with the keys and your purchase paperwork. On some bikes a code is stamped on a lock housing. If you can't find one, we can usually decode the lock instead.

My handlebars are locked and the key won't release the fork lock. What should I do?

Don't force the bars or the key — that can snap the key or damage the lock. Gentle movement of the bars while turning the key sometimes helps. If not, we can free the fork lock and service it.

Can you make one key work my ignition and my saddlebags?

Often, yes. Many saddlebag and top-case locks can be re-keyed to match your ignition key, depending on the lock.

Do you work on Harley-Davidson motorcycles?

We work on many makes, including Harley-Davidson. Some newer models use a security fob rather than a traditional ignition key, and what we can program depends on the year and model. Tell us the details when ordering and we'll confirm before dispatch.

Can you help with a scooter or ATV key?

Yes. We handle scooter and ATV lockouts, lost keys and ignition locks. Give us the year, make and model so the locksmith brings the right blank.

Bike stranded without a key?
