Why window locks get overlooked
Most people lock the front door and forget the windows. Yet a broken sash latch, a slider that lifts out of its track, or a first-floor window left cracked for air can be easier to get through than any door.
Window hardware is also the kind of thing that breaks quietly. Latches crack in summer heat and sun, screws strip out of vinyl frames, and nobody notices until the window won’t lock.
Double-hung windows
Replacement sash locks, plus secondary stops that let the window open a few inches for air but no farther.
Sliding windows
Track locks, thumbscrew stops and pins through the frame so the sliding panel can’t be forced open or lifted out.
Casement & awning
Replacement handles and locking latches where parts are available for the window brand.
Emergency escape comes first
Bedroom windows are often a required way out in a fire. A lock that needs a key or a tool to open can turn a security upgrade into a trap, especially for children and guests who don’t know where the key is.
On windows that serve as an escape route, we recommend locks that open from inside by hand without a key or tool. If you want keyed window locks, we’ll talk through which windows are appropriate and which aren’t. We follow applicable code, and your local code official has the final say.
Ventilation without leaving it open
Middle Tennessee spring and fall weather invites open windows. A ventilation stop lets a window open a few inches and blocks it from opening farther, so you can get fresh air without leaving the window wide open. On the ground floor, that combination of airflow and security is one of the most requested upgrades.
Businesses and rentals
Small offices, shops and rental properties often have mismatched or broken window hardware after years of tenants. We can replace latches across a building in one visit. For rental properties, pair it with lock changes between tenants.
- Count and photograph. Tell us how many windows, what type, and text or email a photo of the latch after you book online.
- Price confirmed. You see the price and deposit before submitting.
- Install. We fit locks without compromising the window seal or frame, using hardware suited to the frame material.
- Test every window. We confirm each locks, unlocks by hand, and still opens for escape where required.
What does window lock installation cost?
Standard price: quoted before dispatch. Price depends on the number of windows, window type and frame material, whether replacement parts exist for that window brand, and whether you add secondary locks or ventilation stops. If a job turns out different from what was described, we explain and get approval first.

When it’s a window repair job
We handle the locks and latches. Broken glass, failed seals, rotted frames or worn balance systems are window repair or replacement work better handled by a window company; we’ll tell you if that’s what we find.
Window lock FAQ
Can you replace a broken window latch?
Yes. We work on all standard window locks, and many double-hung and sliding windows use standard-pattern sash locks. Some window brands use proprietary parts that have to be ordered; a photo of the latch helps us confirm before dispatch.
How do I stop a sliding window from being lifted out?
A track lock or a pin through the frame helps keep the panel from being forced or lifted, and anti-lift adjustments may be possible depending on the window. We recommend options that still let the window open from inside.
Can I lock a window partly open for air?
Yes. A ventilation stop lets the window open a few inches and blocks it from opening farther. It’s a common choice for ground-floor windows.
Are keyed window locks a good idea?
On windows that aren’t an escape route, they can be. On bedroom and other escape windows, locks should open by hand from inside without a key or tool.
Do you install locks on vinyl windows?
Yes, using hardware and fasteners suited to vinyl so we don’t crack the frame or break the seal.
Do you fix basement window security?
We can add locks and stops to many basement windows. If a basement window is an escape route, it needs to stay openable from inside.
